About the role

The Food Service Worker (Assistant Cook) is a full-time position within our residential team. The primary responsibilities include cooking meals for residents and staff, maintaining safety and health standards, and participating in department meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in following posted menus and preparing meals according to recipes and guidelines.
  • Maintain all safety and health standards, including food handling and sanitation.
  • Document meal counts accurately and reconcile with edit checks.
  • Collaborate with the Team Administrator to ensure all residents and staff receive meals.
  • Prepare end-of-month inventory as directed by the Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and company-sponsored seminars.
  • Account for all products and ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Drive a vehicle when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One or more of the following: Bachelor’s Degree in the Social Sciences or Child Development, previous experience as an employee or volunteer at a group home, STRTP, or substance abuse treatment program, lived experience in the child welfare, mental health, juvenile justice, or developmental disabilities system, or 100+ hours of relevant experience working with youth.
  • Minimum of three years of extensive food service experience/training.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a clean DMV record.
  • Current county food handler’s certificate and completed HACCP course.
  • Pass a physical examination, drug clearance, criminal background check, and Child Abuse Index check.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred.

Skills

  • Clear and concise communication in English.
  • An interest in working with youth in accordance with the California Administrative Code, Title 22.

Pay

The pay rate is $17.00 per hour, with an annual performance bonus available.
