About the role

This position oversees inmate food service operations within a correctional facility, including staffing, training, security, and compliance with health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Interview, hire, evaluate, and terminate inmate food service employees.
• Train and instruct cooks, bakers, kitchen, and dining staff in all phases of their duties.
• Supervise all personnel in the performance of their daily duties.
• Act as an officer to maintain internal security of the cafeteria.
• Work with the inmate representative committee to resolve problems and complaints.
• Prepare accurate weekly food orders and ensure accurate deliveries.
• Prepare the cook's worksheet in strict accordance with the SCDC master menu and maintain records for a 5-year period.
• Meet with health, fire, and OSHA inspections.
• Ensure all required maintenance and repair work is performed on cafeteria equipment.
• Obtain ServSafe Manager certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

• Related food service experience.
• Experience in quantity and quality cooking.
• Must be certified as a ServSafe Manager or attain certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Must be certified by SCDC Training Academy or successfully complete SCDC basic training upon hire.
• Must successfully complete a basic supervisory course within eighteen (18) months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior supervisory experience (preferred but not required).
