About the Role

The CNP Food Service Specialist (FSS) is a professional who assists with the operation of a food preparation and service establishment. Food Service Specialists serve customers, stock supplies, operate equipment, maintain clean areas, and operate point-of-sale systems under the supervision of the Cafeteria Manager. This role often serves food for large groups, such as students, and involves monitoring students during meal periods to ensure appropriate behavior and encourage healthy eating habits.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in food preparation, food safety, and food quality assurance for students.
  • Provide customer service and interact daily with staff, students, and families.
  • Operate food service equipment and maintain food service spaces; notify manager of equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform cafeteria cleaning duties: sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, disposing of trash, and moving cafeteria tables and mobile workstations.
  • Load and unload food and non-food products on a weekly basis.
  • Encourage students to participate in the meal program, especially if they are not eating.
  • Ensure accurate counts of student meals as they are delivered.
  • Ensure reimbursable meals are offered to students.
  • Prepare meals according to campus schedules for breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper.
  • Follow all recipes and report errors to the Cafeteria Manager.
  • Adhere to established processes and procedures; discuss any deviations with the Cafeteria Manager.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of work experience demonstrating the ability to handle physical activity for multiple hours while on feet.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds solo and up to 50 pounds with a partner; bend, pull, push, twist, stand, and walk during a work shift.
  • Ability to obtain a locally-recognized manager food safety certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Intermittent standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (e.g., ladders).
  • Ability to withstand moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Ability to move and handle mixed weights, including cafeteria tables, carts, and trash cans/bags.

Pay

Compensation for this role is an hourly rate ranging from $15.30 (0 years of experience) to $17.60. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.
