Essential Functions

  • Provide efficient and friendly customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Safely operate food and beverage equipment according to operations manual and guidelines.
  • Handle, prepare and serve concession foods according to Illinois Department of Health Food Safety Standards.
  • Process orders and serve food and beverages to customers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized serving and eating area.
  • Monitor shift inventory and resupply accordingly.
  • Follow beginning and end of shift procedures including set-up and breakdown, inventory check, resupply, equipment checks and cleaning.
  • Communicate and administer department policies to concessions employees.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 15 years of age (with a valid work permit) or older.
  • Illinois Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment).
  • Willing and able to obtain a CPR & First Aid Certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule, at multiple locations, including mornings, days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Supervision

  • Work is performed under the general direction of the Food Service Program Coordinator and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
  • Assignments can be either verbal or written, with the employee determining proper procedure and work methods and is responsible for completing the work according to City work rule and safety regulations.
  • Work is reviewed through ongoing observation, written and verbal communication, meetings and feedback from supervisors and other department employees.
  • Guidance is provided through rules and regulations, policies and procedures, Personnel Rules and OSHA.
  • Work is evaluated at least once per year for the safe and skilled operation of equipment, quality of tasks, adherence to work rules, and performance in accordance with classification standards.
  • Department Coordinators are responsible for site inspections, ongoing observations, and written and verbal communication.

Public Contact

  • The employee has contact with the general public using parks and recreation facilities.
  • The employee may need to respond to questions and complaints and provide general direction to the public.
