About the role
We are seeking a dedicated educator to join our team in a K-12 alternative certification program. This role supports non-traditional certification pathways for aspiring teachers, helping them meet Michigan’s certification requirements while gaining hands-on classroom experience.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and coach candidates through the alternative certification process, including classroom instruction and assessment.
- Collaborate with school districts, intermediate school districts (ISDs), and higher education partners to align certification programs with state standards.
- Monitor candidate progress, provide feedback, and ensure compliance with Michigan Department of Education (MDE) guidelines.
- Develop and deliver professional development sessions for candidates and mentor teachers.
- Assist in the design and implementation of program evaluations to measure effectiveness.
- Serve as a liaison between candidates, schools, and certification bodies to resolve issues and facilitate smooth transitions into teaching roles.
Requirements
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful K-12 teaching experience.
- Experience with alternative certification programs, teacher mentoring, or professional development.
- Strong knowledge of Michigan’s teacher certification requirements and standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including educators, administrators, and policymakers.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience in curriculum development, assessment design, or program coordination.
- Familiarity with Michigan’s educator evaluation frameworks (e.g., Danielson, Marzano).
- Commitment to equity and supporting diverse candidates in entering the teaching profession.
