Middle School/High School Food Service Worker for the 2026-2027 school year.
Pay
Starting rate of pay: $19.00/hour.
Schedule
180 student days with additional days for kitchen set-up prior to the first student day and required continuing education. Hours are subject to change with the needs of the kitchen and will be determined by the Director and/or Kitchen Manager. The employee is required to report to work at the normal time during late starts but will not work on unexpected school closure days (e.g., snow days).
Responsibilities
- Dishwashing, warewashing, sanitizing tables, trash disposal, and serving.
- Food prep, cooking, baking, and other clean-up duties as assigned.
- Prepare or assist in the preparation, cooking, and serving of nutritious and attractive foods to students in a safe and cost-effective manner.
- Effectively and efficiently operate a cash register.
- Assist with serving and clean-up of all equipment such as stoves, refrigerators, pots, pans, and satellite equipment.
- Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety.
- Help in any areas when needed, including using all equipment.
- Assist the manager in proper handling, storage, and rotation of foods.
- Notify the manager when supplies are needed or when equipment requires maintenance or repair.
- Maintain records as needed in an organized manner.
- Perform all other related food service duties as directed.
- Handle chemicals in commercial-strength detergents and cleaning solutions.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certified on an employee medical examination form to be fully qualified in health.
- Ability to read and calculate standardized recipes.
- Experience and/or knowledge in quantity food preparation.
- Regular attendance.
- Ability to follow oral or written directions.
Physical Requirements
- Work in a standing and/or walking position for long periods under extreme temperatures.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 53 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to operate and handle equipment related to food preparation.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, talk or hear, taste or smell, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate tools or controls.
Working Conditions
- Commercial kitchen setting with hard surface floors and extreme temperatures ranging from 50°F to 98°F.
- Noise level in the work environment can be quiet, moderately loud, or loud.
- Must wear a uniform and appropriate hair restraints (approved by the Food Service Director and/or state/county authority) at all times in food preparation and dining areas.
- Ability to tolerate chemicals in commercial-strength detergents and cleaning solutions.
- Kitchen conditions can be very warm, humid, or cold.
Skills
- Experience and/or knowledge in quantity food preparation.
- Ability to operate standard computers, email, and internet.
- Successful prior experience preferred but not required.
