The Food Service Associate creates a positive experience by providing outstanding customer service, preparing and serving fresh food, operating the register, stocking and organizing the café, and helping maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment. Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients, visitors, employees, and guests with a friendly, positive attitude, creating an exceptional experience.
  • Provide outstanding customer service by responding to questions and requests promptly, professionally, and courteously.
  • Operate the cash register accurately, process transactions, and reconcile the cash drawer at the end of each shift.
  • Assist customers and answer questions about food items and café offerings.
  • Answer telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Set up serving areas to ensure food is attractively displayed and readily available for customers.
  • Communicate with kitchen staff to replenish food items and ensure products remain fresh and available throughout service.
  • Stock, organize, and rotate café inventory using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method.
  • Replenish vending machines, nourishment areas, and café supplies to maintain a welcoming and well-stocked environment.
  • Assist with basic food preparation, including washing, cutting, assembling, and garnishing food items.
  • Retrieve food and supplies from refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary café, dining room, serving areas, and food service workspaces.
  • Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, equipment, carts, and other food service items following sanitation standards.
  • Take pride in maintaining an attractive, safe, and inviting dining environment for all customers.
  • Follow HACCP food safety guidelines, accurately record food temperatures, and ensure safe food handling practices.
  • Comply with all DNV, state, federal, and hospital policies, procedures, and food safety regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with cooks and fellow Food & Nutrition team members to provide efficient, high-quality service.
  • Participate in department meetings, training, and educational opportunities to support professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the Food & Nutrition team.

  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently exposed to working near moving mechanical parts, may work with explosives, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Frequently works in extreme heat (non-weather).

  • Exposed to outdoor weather conditions and extreme cold (non-weather).
  • Exposed to vibration and safety risks.
