About the Role

Under close supervision, sets up and arranges serving lines and dining room in College dining facilities. Serves food from counters and steamtables to cafeteria patrons. Stores leftover food items and cleans up kitchen utensils, equipment, work, and dining room areas at the completion of the shift. Assists with daily catering orders.

Responsibilities

  • Carries trays and containers of food and supplies from kitchen to serving/dining area.
  • Stocks and arranges food, dishes, silverware, and other supplies at steamtables, ice counters, salad bars, and serving stations.
  • Serves food from counters and steamtables to cafeteria patrons (e.g., serves salads, vegetables, meat, breads; ladles soups and sauces; portions desserts; fills beverage cups and glasses).
  • Prepares hot and cold beverages.
  • Replenishes foods and condiments at serving stations.
  • Cleans tables, seats, and general dining area in accordance with sanitary procedures; scrubs and polishes counters, steamtables, and other equipment.
  • Removes food after meals and cleans equipment, counters, and work areas.
  • Learns and follows safety precautions and proper food protection and handling procedures.
  • Operates cash register: itemizes and totals customer purchases, scans items, collects payment, makes change, and closes out the register at shift end.
  • Assists with daily catering orders: reads menus/orders, prepares and wraps sandwiches/desserts, loads delivery cartons, delivers orders, sets up tables, and serves guests.
  • Demonstrates commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness; participates in division-wide initiatives promoting a welcoming environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Six months of relevant experience in food service operations (or equivalent).
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift/carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic understanding of cleanliness procedures and sanitation regulations.
  • Commitment to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food service experience in an institutional establishment.
  • Knowledge of food protection and handling procedures.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and customer relations skills.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts and required overtime.

Schedule

  • Nine-month position (three-month summer hiatus) or 12-month position available.
  • Scheduled hours: Sunday–Thursday, 1:00 PM–9:30 PM (Saturday & Sunday off).
  • 40 hours per week, 9 months per year.
  • Onsite at the Courtyard Cafe in Hanover, NH.

Pay

$24.27 per hour.
