Food Service Assistant - Per Diem/Day Shift

As a Food Service Assistant at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, you'll help create a welcoming dining experience for patients, visitors, and staff by preparing and serving meals, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and supporting daily food service operations. This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit and reports to the Executive Chef.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food, beverages, and snacks in cafeteria and patient service areas.
• Provide friendly, professional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Assemble and deliver patient meal trays while ensuring dietary and quality standards are met.
• Operate cash register and process transactions accurately.
• Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary food service, kitchen, and dining areas.
• Follow food safety, infection prevention, and sanitation guidelines to support a safe environment.
• Restock supplies, rotate inventory, and notify leadership of shortages.
• Operate dishwashing equipment and maintain kitchen equipment according to established procedures.
• Support catering services, tray line operations, and other department activities as needed.
• Collaborate with Nutrition Services and clinical teams to support an exceptional patient experience.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• Previous food preparation and service experience preferred.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to operate cash register.
