Food Server

About the role

As a Child Start Food Server, you will prepare and store food items for nourishing snacks and meals for children at the centers, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and ensure compliance with Health Department and CACFP guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and document hot and cold food at recommended temperatures.
• Ensure food is properly stored and labeled.
• Clean dishes and kitchen while maintaining health and sanitation requirements.
• Establish and follow a routine for thorough cleaning of cabinets, ovens, refrigerators, and all other kitchen equipment.
• Keep accurate daily records of food deliveries, menus, meals, snacks served, and quantities served.
• Adjust menus or prepare special meals to meet dietary needs, as directed by the Nutrition Coordinator in coordination with the Center Supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality of children’s information.
• Divide food in appropriate amounts for each class and deliver to classrooms with necessary serving utensils and tableware at scheduled meal times.
• Make recommendations to the Nutrition Coordinator regarding appropriate food quantities.
• Note discrepancies in food delivered by the caterer and report them to the Nutrition Coordinator.
• Inventory and request supplies as needed.
• Assist with preparation for children’s activities and maintain necessary supplies.
• Collaborate and share feedback with the Nutrition Coordinator on food-related activities.
• Post menu changes to inform families of food substitutions.
• Assist with Family Activity events.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general equivalency education.
• Less than 12 months of related experience.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move objects or materials up to 30 pounds.
• Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
• Must be able to commute daily to Wichita, KS.

In compliance with KDHE requirements, Child Start will request proof of measles (MMR) vaccination or documented immunity during the employment process.

Pay

$13.88 per hour.

Schedule

40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
