Food Security Programs Lead - Campus Health and Wellbeing
Under the general supervision of the Director of Wellbeing & Health Equity, the Food Security Programs Lead coordinates Cal Poly's food insecurity prevention and response programs, including food access initiatives, student support, outreach, and campus partnerships. The position serves as the lead for food insecurity programs and collaborates with campus partners supporting broader Basic Needs efforts. The incumbent connects students with essential campus and community resources, ensuring access to services such as the Cal Poly Food Pantry, the Meal Voucher Program, Cal Fresh, and the Community Food Pantry Garden.

Campus Health & Wellbeing helps students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health and wellbeing by providing timely and appropriate primary and acute health care, disease and injury prevention education, professional mental health, outreach, educational services, and campus consultations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate food insecurity prevention and response programs, including food access initiatives, student support, outreach, and campus partnerships.
- Serve as the lead for food insecurity programs and collaborate with campus partners supporting broader Basic Needs efforts.
- Connect students with essential campus and community resources, such as the Cal Poly Food Pantry, Meal Voucher Program, Cal Fresh, and the Community Food Pantry Garden.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
- General knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends of the Student Services field, and of the policies, procedures, and practices of the program area.
- General knowledge of individual counseling and interviewing techniques, including recognizing when a student's circumstances exceed the scope of this position.
- Working knowledge of student services programs outside the immediate program area.
- Knowledge of food insecurity trends and their intersection with housing insecurity, financial hardship, and student persistence; of food access and nutrition assistance programs; and of community-based resource and referral systems.
- Working knowledge of CalFresh eligibility criteria, student exemption rules, and application and recertification processes, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
- Working knowledge of the application of FERPA and other higher education law and policy governing the handling of confidential student information.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area may be preferred but is not required.
- A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education, or a directly related field may substitute for one year of experience.
- A doctorate degree and appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may substitute for the three years of experience.
Credentials
- Must obtain ServSafe Certification within the first 90 days of hire.
Pay
Anticipated Hiring Range: $66,528 - $77,951 per year. Classification Range: $66,480 - $94,716 per year. Factors determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
