Food Runner/Busser
The Westerfield Club in Tuscaloosa, AL, part of Troon, is seeking a driven individual to join a fast-paced hospitality team.
About the role
Assists servers in providing efficient service by delivering orders from the kitchen to guests and keeping back-of-house areas clean, organized, and stocked. Creates memorable dining experiences through personalized and genuine interactions.
Responsibilities
- Assures all material used by servers and expeditors is clean and ready for daily operation.
- Knows the position of each diner’s chair in the dining rooms and lounges.
- Sets the outside line with under-liner plates, flatware, doilies, linen napkins, and other items needed for food delivery.
- Organizes plates in the window and matches each with tickets to run food to tables.
- Sets tables according to facility standards.
- Answers guests’ questions about ingredients and menu items.
- Informs restaurant staff about customers’ feedback or requests (e.g., when they ask for the check).
- Ensures each menu item is prepared exactly as outlined on the ticket.
- Delivers food orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables rapidly and accurately.
- Corrects menu items with the chef or expeditor before delivery to meet exact specifications.
- Removes unused place settings and clears dishes upon completion of a course.
- Keeps workstations stocked with necessary items and ingredients.
- Cleans workstations, takes out trash, and vacuums the dining room.
- Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- High school education or up to one month of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience as a Food Runner or similar entry-level restaurant role (preferred).
Physical Demands
- Frequently stands, walks, talks, and hears.
- Frequently uses hands and regularly reaches with arms and hands.
- Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crawls, crouches, tastes, or smells.
- Frequently lifts up to 10 pounds and regularly lifts up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly carries trays above the head with plates of food to tables in the dining room and lounge.
- Occasionally works in wet or humid conditions (non-weather); may come into contact with fumes, airborne particles, or toxic/caustic chemicals.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Certifications
- ServSafe Certified (Food Handler & Alcohol) or TIPS equivalent.
Skills
- Ability to read and speak English (required for communicating with customers and coworkers, and understanding equipment manuals).
- Meets state age requirements for handling alcoholic beverages.
- Strong multitasking and communication skills.
