Food Preparer/Baker

About the role

Marlene’s Tea & Cakes specializes in elegant British-style afternoon tea. We pride ourselves in serving quality food that is fresh, made in-house, and beautifully presented. We are looking for a part-time Food Preparer/Baker who can follow detailed instructions to create sandwiches, savories, desserts, and hot tea that meet our standards. This person must be artistic and creative in food presentation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and make soup, sandwiches, and savories
• Create a wide variety of baked goods and pastries, both savory and sweet
• Artistically decorate desserts
• Maintain health and safety regulations in all kitchen and dining areas
• Follow directions and handle feedback
• Work well with a team and under pressure
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredients
• Set tables and prepare pots of tea
• Deliver prepared food tiers to customers
• Clear tables, wash dishes, and clean kitchen

Requirements

• 2 years of pastry or baking experience in a fast-paced environment
• Strong knowledge of baking and pastries
• Solid communication and teamwork skills
• Hard working and fast-paced
• Able to work under pressure
• Able to follow recipes and instructions accurately
• Confident culinary technique and skills
• Effective time management skills
• Physically able to stand for long periods
