The Salvation Army Midland Division Southern Illinois Area Command (SIAC) is located at 906 Tower Square Plaza, Marion, Illinois.
About the role
This part-time position assists with arranging for food acquisition, delivery, and stocking of food, as well as preparation of food boxes for clients.
Responsibilities
- Review intake form with client(s), obtaining additional information/documentation as required to determine eligibility.
- Search computer database, and enter any new clients or changes to existing clients’ data into the system.
- Prepare, move, and carry food boxes/bags for clients based on family size.
- Keep food pantry stocked by moving heavy quantities of food from storage areas into the pantry room daily.
- Remove outdated items from shelves and refrigerators/freezers regularly and rotate stock to prevent long-term storage.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and organized pantry and storerooms; report any rodent/bug problems to maintenance.
- Order food from The Central Illinois Foodbank and other sources, coordinate transportation, and arrange for unloading.
- Keep records of food offered, accepted, and rejected from the foodbank and other sources.
- Maintain and report program statistics to the administration office.
- Prepare and submit Food Bank reports and Operation Food Search Reports.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in an office environment (combination of training and experience will be considered).
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License and ability to pass TSA MVR check.
- Ability to communicate with clients in person and by phone.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and entering/retrieving data from a computer database.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus.
- Must be a team player, self-starter, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Outgoing personality with strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse cultures.
- Good organizational skills.
- Commitment to The Salvation Army’s mission.
Physical Working Conditions
- Frequently lift 25 pounds, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and frequently move 50+ pounds using a dolly, cart, or truck.
- Work may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions (cold in winter, hot in summer).
Pay
$15.00 per hour.
Schedule
Part-time, 25 hours per week.
