Responsibilities

  • Adjust thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles.
  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
  • Add seasoning to foods during mixing or cooking.
  • Observe and test foods being cooked by tasting, smelling, and piercing with fork to determine that it is cooked.
  • Carve meats, portion food on serving plates, add gravies and sauces, and garnish servings to fill orders.
  • Wash, peel, cut, and shred vegetables and fruits to prepare them for use.
  • Bake bread, rolls, cakes, and pastry.
  • Perform any task assigned by your master cook, sous chef, room chef, or restaurant manager.
  • Follow PPE and safety guidance designed to safeguard you, your fellow team members, and guests.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 3 months experience in the culinary field.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must qualify for licensing with the West Virginia Racing Commission.
  • Attend and pass the West Virginia Food Handlers Class certification.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Initial placement within the salary range is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
