Schedule
8 hours per day, 190 days per school year (6:00 am – 2:00 pm)
Responsibilities
- Prepares foods using standardized recipes, accepted food production methods, and appropriate school kitchen equipment.
- Assists in setting up service areas, portioning, and/or serving food items.
- May assist with kitchen cleanup and proper storage of leftovers.
- Safely operates school kitchen equipment; inspects periodically and recommends needed maintenance and repairs.
- Assists in control of food and supply costs through stock rotation, proper storage and handling, portion control, and use of excess food production.
- Maintains standards of sanitation, safety, production, service, and food quality.
- Communicates effectively and works as a team with fellow employees and supervisors.
- Assists manager and head cook in directing the work of Food Service personnel.
- Assists the manager in preparing orders for food and supplies.
- Maintains good public relations with students, parents, faculty, and the community.
- Plans workload, forecasts requirements, and coordinates food production.
- Completes and maintains food production records.
- Ensures proper food presentation and quality for customers.
- Assists with production and service of catered functions.
- May be required to cover in buildings other than the one assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Competence in food preparation, sanitation, safety, and kitchen operations.
- ServSafe Certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Able to work in a standing position for prolonged periods and walk much of the time during the day.
- Able to work in very warm surroundings.
- Manual dexterity to handle knives and other kitchen equipment.
- Able to lift materials weighing at least 46 pounds.
- May be required to climb stairs.
