All About Food & Beverage

The Food & Beverage team ensures product freshness, availability, and accurate pricing. They manage inventory, food safety, and customer shopping patterns. This team also handles food deliveries, replenishment, and merchandising.

The Role of a Food & Beverage Expert

  • Provide guests with information about purchasing items and storage tips.
  • Manage department sales trends, inventory, quality, and freshness.
  • Follow food safety standards and merchandising routines.
  • Use sampling and suggestive selling to promote products and increase sales.
  • Work with vendors to maintain and update salesfloor merchandise displays.
  • Locate and process damaged, recalled, or expired items according to Target's policies.
  • Be knowledgeable about the total store and specific area tools, products, and services to solve guest issues.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local adult beverage laws.
  • Use and care for in-store and personal protective equipment.
  • Adhere to ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick up (OPU), and Drive-up (DU).

  • Previous food or grocery experience preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners.
  • Capable of resolving guest questions quickly.
  • Attention to detail and following multi-step processes.
  • Focus and composure in a fast-paced environment.

Training and Skills

  • Must be at least 18 years old (Bakery only).
  • Previous food or grocery experience preferred.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude.
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners.
  • Resolve guest questions quickly.
  • Attention to detail and follow multi-step processes.
  • Focus and composure in a fast-paced environment.

Basics to Know

  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds.
  • Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Reliable and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and environments.
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
