About the role
The Michigan Department of Corrections offers unpaid internships in Parole/Probation for the 2027 Winter/Spring Semester (January 2027 - April 2027). Internships are available in Regions 1-8.
Responsibilities
- Review policy and procedures for the Michigan Department of Corrections
- Attend court proceedings in reference to sentencing, arraignments and probation violations
- Aid in the development of pre-sentence reports
- Perform daily interaction with offenders and conduct offender home calls under MDOC staff supervision
- Develop parole/probation violation reports
- Utilize electronic monitoring supervision system
- Assist in the development of job readiness and other support programs
- Track job placement and employment retention outcomes
- Provide research assistance and data collection on reentry programs, policies and practices
- Collaborate with contracted prisoner reentry service providers, other law enforcement representatives and community organizations
- Affirm risk assessments and develop case plans
- Identify and refer parolees to local community resources
- Participate in special assignments as directed by the parole supervisor
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in a college or university pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, child development, sociology, school social work, social work administration, education psychology, family relations, human services, or theology
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Must pass a LEIN background check
- Must pass a fingerprinting screen, through the source designated by the Department
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in a college or university pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, child development, sociology, school social work, social work administration, education psychology, family relations, human services, or theology
