Fluids Systems Engineer II – Helium

About the role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The position will work under a senior engineer accountable for the helium system within the Gas and Thrusters (G&T) team on our Transfer Stage Vehicle. You will be responsible for design of the components and sub-assembly systems for the helium subsystem.

Responsibilities

• Fluids sub-assembly design and development, designing parts and assemblies in CAD (Creo preferred).
• Analyze custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
• Interpreting and generating Piping and instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
• Create specifications for fluid/gas components i.e., solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
• Develop and maintain interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
• Perform component trade studies and analyze test data.
• Work with suppliers or Blue Origin groups to identify components and support procurement, fabrication, and installation.
• Perform component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
• 2+ years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
• Knowledge and experience with gas systems.
• Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
• Proven understand of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
• Develop and maintain interface definitions between the vehicle and subsystems.
• Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.)
• Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications skills
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field
• Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems

Pay

For WA applicants the base pay range is $99,201.00 – $138,880.35. Other site ranges may differ.
