Responsibilities
- Initiates preliminary investigations and preserves crime scenes.
- Interviews subjects and witnesses, renders first aid, and arrests offenders.
- Records all relevant facts and appears in court.
- Patrols assigned areas, giving particular attention to crime hazard areas.
- Enforces traffic laws and conducts accident investigations.
- Assists citizens with protection of self and property.
- Maintains awareness of active felons and their methods of operation.
- Performs various clerical and administrative tasks.
- Provides numerous human services, general information, and assistance to the public.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a G.E.D. equivalency diploma.
- Current certification as a state of Florida Law Enforcement Officer or Basic Recruit Certificate.
- A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to meet all requirements of the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
- Pass the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT).
- Pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT) and Swimming (SWIM) test.
- Corrected visual acuity of 20/30 in both eyes; no marked red-green deficiency of color vision and no dimming of red objects; normal depth perception; no significant interference with night vision; no significant loss of peripheral vision; strabismus which is accompanied by double vision and not correctable.
- The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals.
- The ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Schedule
Effective January 2026, the City of Sunrise has implemented an Alternative Work Schedule designed to support employee work-life balance. Eligible staff receive two three-day weekends per month through an every-other-Friday-off model.
