Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation - Patient Support Volunteer (Naples West)

Overview

The FCS Foundation is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization founded in 2011 and located at 5204 Paylor Lane in Sarasota, Florida. It assists cancer patients across the state of Florida.

Responsibilities

• Brighten up a cancer patient’s day by providing non-medical support to them while they are undergoing treatment.
• Offer a snack or beverage to a patient.
• Hand out warm blankets.
• Share reading materials.
• Talk and listen.
• Wipe down the infusion chairs.
• Help support the nurses with re-stocking.

Requirements

• A minimum time commitment of 3 hours per week for at least six months.
• Complete a phone interview.
• Pass a criminal history check and drug/nicotine screening.
• Be a retiree, cancer survivor, caregiver of someone with cancer, or have an interest in oncology, nursing, or medicine.
• Complete a health screening including TB testing, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella immunizations or approved exemptions.
• Get an annual influenza vaccine (August 1 through March 31).

Volunteers receive no compensation but have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of cancer patients.

Qualifications

Individuals must be able to commit to a minimum of three hours per week for at least six months. They must also be willing to get an annual influenza vaccine.
