Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation - Patient Support Volunteer (Ft. Myers Gladiolus)

Overview

The FCS Foundation is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization founded in 2011 and located at 5204 Paylor Lane in Sarasota, Florida. It assists cancer patients across the state of Florida. Donations cover all overhead expenses, allowing 100% of donations to go directly towards paying essential non-medical living expenses for adult cancer patients.

Patient Support Volunteer

• Brighten up a cancer patient's day by providing non-medical support during their treatment.
• Offer snacks or beverages, distribute warm blankets, share reading materials, talk and listen, and assist with re-stocking.
• Volunteers should ideally be retirees, cancer survivors, caregivers, or students interested in oncology, nursing, or medicine.
• A minimum time commitment of 3 hours per week for at least six months is required.

Requirements

• Complete a phone interview.
• Pass a criminal history check and drug/nicotine screening.
• Be free from nicotine and medical marijuana use.
• Complete a health screening including TB testing, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella immunizations or approved exemptions.
• Get an annual influenza vaccine (August 1 through March 31).
