About the role
The Housekeeping Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking a Floor Care Specialist to serve as a technical specialist in advanced floor care and surface restoration.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced floor care services, including stripping, refinishing, burnishing, carpet extraction, and restorative floor maintenance.
- Audit floor types and conditions to determine the appropriate cleaning methods, products, and restoration techniques.
- Execute preventive maintenance schedules based on floor material, traffic levels, and environmental conditions.
- Apply specialty floor coatings, sealers, and protective finishes while ensuring proper surface preparation and curing.
- Restore restrooms, fixtures, and other surfaces to maintain a clean, safe, and professional appearance.
- Diagnose and correct floor care issues such as finish failure, staining, discoloration, chemical damage, and improper coating application.
- Develop and perform corrective restoration plans to return flooring to established quality standards.
- Operate, maintain, and properly store specialized floor care equipment and tools.
- Plan and prepare floor care projects, including equipment setup, material selection, safety measures, and customer notifications.
- Maintain inventory of floor care equipment and supplies and coordinate replenishment needs with the Zone Manager.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to team members on floor care procedures, equipment operation, and standard operating procedures.
- Complete and update work orders using the Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS), including reporting maintenance deficiencies as needed.
- Ensure all work meets established cleanliness, safety, and quality standards while protecting university assets.
- Support daily operations and assist with maintaining productivity in the absence of the Zone Manager.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to a high-performance work team by promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of 9th grade and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
- Experience performing advanced commercial floor care, including stripping, refinishing, burnishing, carpet extraction, and restorative floor maintenance.
- Experience working with multiple flooring types such as VCT, LVT, terrazzo, tile, and concrete.
- Experience with organizing resources and ensuring that work productivity and service meet UCF quality assurance standards.
- At least one year of leadership, or lead worker experience, including training, coaching, and motivating team members.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and proper use of EH&S-approved chemicals, including familiarity with OSHA and applicable federal/state safety requirements.
- Effective communication skills in English in order to work with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (including iPad for IWMS), and utilize telecommunication devices.
Qualifications
- Completion of 9th grade and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
- Preferred qualifications include experience performing advanced commercial floor care, experience working with multiple flooring types, experience with organizing resources, leadership experience, knowledge of safety regulations, and effective communication skills.

Benefits
May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination, and training in use of respirators. Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
