Floater Teacher

About the role

As a substitute teacher, you will meet the specific and unanticipated needs of covering any classroom throughout the day. You must be available to work any shift during the hours the agency is open, as well as occasional after-hours events, meetings, and training. You will support the classroom teaching team in providing a safe, nurturing environment where children can develop their cognitive, physical, and social-emotional capacity through exploratory play. Following the leadership of lead teachers, you will maintain positive expectations and utilize established strategies for a well-organized classroom.

Responsibilities

• Fill in classrooms as needed and provide lunch breaks as outlined in the staff's schedule.
• Work with children of a variety of ages from six weeks to 12 years.
• Enthusiastically greet and engage with parents at drop-off and pick-up times.
• Maintain positive relationships with parents and staff.
• Input each child's daily activities into an interactive app for parents in a consistent, timely, and accurate manner throughout the day.
• Create a soft, calm, safe, and loving environment.
• Implement daily scheduled activities for children, focusing on children's interests, language development, social skills, and gross motor/coordination skills.
• Ensure the daily care of every child by following all licensing guidelines and implementing all CLC standards.
• Support cleaning classrooms and preparing materials while the lead teachers engage with students.
• Work cooperatively with and assist teachers and other staff members.
• Work effectively with CLC personnel members and implement strategic tactics as indicated.
• Adhere to all CLC policies outlined in the New Employee Orientation and Teacher's Handbook.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Respond appropriately to the cultural differences present among the agency's service population.
• Incorporate and demonstrate the mission, vision, work, core values, and activities of Catholic Charities in a positive manner with all staff, clients, and the general public at all times.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 45-hour entry-level course preferred or must be completed within four (4) months after hire date.
• CDC-Childhood Development Certification preferred. If not applicable, a CDC must be obtained within two (2) years after the hire date.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Must have the ability to communicate fluently in English.
• Six months to one year of experience in a licensed childcare facility preferred.
• Must pass a state-enforced background check.
• Valid NM driver's license and a clean driving record preferred.
• Basic computer literacy in email usage, word processing, and internet navigation.

Skills

• Ability to take direction and change direction while taking initiative to contribute to classroom activities.
• Knowledge and experience in the normal range of development of children.
• Excellent patience and stamina for keeping up with the demands of children of all ages and program needs.
• Strong verbal communication and listening skills to converse with children, fellow professional caregivers, and parents or guardians.
• Passionate about working with children.
