Floater- Residential Support Associate

Location: Willingness to travel in Calvert and Charles Counties.

About the Role

The Arc Southern Chesapeake is hiring a part-time Floater-Residential Support Associate. This role provides onsite instruction, support, and encouragement to people with developmental or intellectual disabilities. A Floater may provide support at home, in recreational settings, or in the community, including personal hygiene, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, banking, medical appointments, medication administration (if necessary), transportation, or social and recreational assistance. Candidates must be available for varying schedules and able to travel between locations within the residential department.

Schedule

• Flexible hours: Must be available 2-3 days per week for all shifts
• Shifts: 6 am–2 pm, 2 pm–10 pm, and 10 pm–6 am, including weekdays and weekends

Pay

$20.00 per hour

Responsibilities

• Community Living Skills & Supports: Assist individual(s) with physical needs (e.g., health, grooming, toileting, eating) and personal management (e.g., human development, human sexuality) by teaching skills and providing support. Help with household management (e.g., meal prep, laundry, cleaning) and transportation to maximize independence. Administer medication or prescribed medical treatments as certified.
• Community and Service Networking: Provide opportunities for involvement in community and leisure activities. Identify needs for community supports and initiate connections.
• Participant Empowerment: Assist individual(s) in planning, making informed choices, following through on responsibilities, and advocating for themselves.
• Communication: Use effective, sensitive communication skills to build rapport and adapt to individual(s) communication styles. Explain terminology to ensure understanding.
• Facilitation of Services: Maintain collaborative relationships with individual(s) and support teams. Follow ethical standards (e.g., confidentiality, informed consent) and implement individualized plans based on preferences, needs, and interests.
• Advocacy: Facilitate, assist, or represent individual(s) when barriers to services arise. Educate community members (e.g., employers, landlords) as needed.
• Crisis Intervention: Identify, evaluate, and defuse crisis situations. Monitor ongoing crises, adjust supports, and comply with reporting regulations. Implement behavior plans as indicated.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records, submit them timely, and uphold confidentiality standards.
• Organization Participation: Comply with agency guidelines and incorporate sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues into daily interactions.
• Education, Training & Self-Development: Complete and pass all required initial and ongoing training. Must be MTTP and BPS certified.
• Additional Duties: Accomplish assigned tasks and demonstrate appropriate role model behavior at all times.

Requirements

• 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid driver’s license (no permit or provisional license)
• Ability to pass a criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland
• Reliable vehicle for transporting individuals served
• Good driving record with no more than 2 points
• Enjoy assisting people and providing hands-on support

Qualifications

• Ability to work as part of a team and independently
• Ability and desire to create long-term, trusting, and respectful relationships
