Float Registered Nurse - PreOp/PACU - Outpatient Surgery per diem

About the Role

This is a PRN float-pool position that requires travel between multiple outpatient surgery centers within the Phoenix (West Valley) area. The role operates Monday through Friday with no weekends or call shifts. A minimum commitment of 4 shifts per month is required, offering flexible scheduling through easy-to-use software and a dedicated staffing office.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional standards.
  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and post-operative needs.
  • Review patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
  • Formulate and revise a plan of care based on assessment data, patient/family input, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the healthcare team.
  • Promote continuity of care through accurate and complete communication with other caregivers.
  • Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; adjust the plan of care as needed.
  • Document all aspects of care (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in the patient record legibly and timely.
  • Provide care based on best evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
  • Participate in facility shared leadership, education, orientation, and mentoring of personnel, patients, students, and families.
  • Contribute to national nursing quality indicators and outcomes through professional activities.
  • In some locations, provide relief charge duties for staff and workflow management.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing (or higher) required.
  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • PALS certification required within 90 days of start date if assigned to pediatric services.

Qualifications

Core (Full-Time/Part-Time)

  • Minimum one-year licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU (e.g., ICU, ED).
  • New licensed RN with no PreOp/PACU experience must enroll in Perianesthesia Academy and complete within 4 months.

PRN

  • Minimum two years licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PreOp/PACU licensed RN experience strongly preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
  • Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond to unexpected patient care needs.
  • Adequate hearing, visual acuity (including color vision), and fine motor skills for patient care tasks.
  • Ability to use proper body mechanics for patient ambulation, transfers, and lifting (up to 75 pounds).
  • Must use standard precautions due to exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
  • Effective communication skills (reading, writing, speaking) in person and via telephone.
  • Periodic use of computers, phones, and general office equipment.
