About the role

As a Float Medical Assistant, you will perform administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a physician, supporting multiple office locations to ensure continuity of patient care and daily operations. This position requires flexibility, adaptability to different providers and clinic workflows, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interact professionally with patients.
  • Accompany and settle patients in the exam room in advance of the physician’s visit.
  • Take vitals such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and height and enter them into the EMR.
  • Obtain current medication lists from new and returning patients and verify allergies during every request for medication and office visit. Perform medication reconciliation.
  • Acquire patient history and chief complaint, documenting in complete sentences with proper grammar.
  • Perform necessary office tests, such as rapid strep tests and smell tests, as requested by the physician and document results in the patient’s record.
  • Update patient’s surgical history in the EMR, including surgeries performed by our physicians and others during return visits.
  • Draw blood specimens, prepare and label them for the laboratory, ensuring the appropriate lab is used based on the patient’s insurance plan.
  • Obtain patient-signed informed consent, administer intramuscular injections (e.g., steroids, vitamin B12), and document completion in the EHR.
  • Update the provider on which patient should be seen next to minimize wait time, considering patient timeliness and appointment schedules.
  • Clean and prepare exam rooms in a timely manner for the next patient.
  • Retrieve, direct, and respond to messages from the nursing line.
  • Call in prescriptions as directed by physicians.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable government laws, rules, regulations, AAOA, and company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and self, per policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
  • CPR Certification preferred.
