Flight Paramedic-PRN-Mercy St. Robert

About the Role

This position is engaged in the practice of emergency medicine, requiring substantial judgment, knowledge, and proficient skills to provide safe and therapeutic paramedic care to critical patients. The Flight Paramedic shares responsibility with the flight nurse to deliver care during each mission, accurately assessing and managing life-threatening situations while adhering to state law, Mercy Life Line Protocol, and hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient care for critically ill or seriously injured patients across all age groups.
• Assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret information to identify patient needs relative to age-specific requirements.
• Operate medical equipment, including Cardiac Monitors, Non-Invasive/Invasive BP Monitors, Mechanical Ventilators, Co2 Monitors, IABP, Infusion Pumps, and computers.
• Work in confined areas, handle stressful situations, make sound and accurate judgments, and adapt to a changing environment with constant interruptions.
• Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy loads (up to 75 lbs.), pushing, pulling, gripping, and pinching (up to 20 lbs.), as well as kneeling, crouching, and crawling occasionally.
• Operate in all climate conditions and be exposed to outdoor elements daily.

Requirements

• Current paramedic license in the state of operation: MO EMP-P or AR EMT-P.
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ITLS or PHTLS (one-time completion).
• NRP and Hazmat certifications taken within 6 months of hire; must maintain BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS, and ATLS or equivalent Life Line Trauma Course after six months.
• ALS care experience for at least three years with demonstrated above-average abilities and skills.
• FP-C or CCP-C certifications required for Paramedics conducting critical care transports with more than two years of air medical service experience. Those with less than two years of experience must complete certification within two years of hire.
• Must pass a yearly flight fitness evaluation, including pushing, pulling, and gripping up to 75 lbs. and pinching up to 20 lbs.
• Weight requirement: 230 lbs. or less in full uniform (flight suit and boots) as of 7/1/2017.

Preferred Qualifications

• HS/GED.
• CCEMT-P licensure preferred.
• Previous air medical experience preferred.
