Flight Nurse/ CareFlight Air & Mobile Services
About the Role
The Flight Nurse functions in a versatile role that demonstrates professionalism and promotes excellence and autonomy in the practice of Nursing. The Flight Nurse utilizes the nursing process in conjunction with evidence-based principles to provide safe and rapid transport of critically ill or injured patients by air ambulance or mobile intensive care to a higher level medical treatment facility. The Flight Nurse provides advanced emergency/critical care during medical transport and may also provide nursing care for patients throughout Premier Health. This position also includes public relations and medical education functions.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced emergency and critical care during medical transport.
- Utilize the nursing process to ensure safe and rapid transport of critically ill or injured patients.
- Perform public relations and medical education functions.
- Comply with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, Nursing Code of Ethics, and applicable regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Valid Ohio RN license.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications at the time of hire.
- Certified EMT-B at the time of hire (or Professional Nursing Certification preferred).
- ITLS or PHTLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Advanced Trauma Life Support (audit only) within 1 year of hire.
- CAMTS approved Nursing certification and Certified EMT-P in the State of Ohio within 2 years of hire.
Qualifications
- Minimum Level of Education Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing (BSN Preferred).
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years of recent active experience in Emergency Department or Critical Care.
- Pre-hospital or critical care transport experience preferred.
Special Consideration: If the candidate has a minimum of one year of previous experience with CareFlight Air & Mobile Services as a Paramedic, they must have an additional 4000 hours of critical care experience as an RN in an ICU or an emergency department to be eligible to reapply to the program as an RN. This is in lieu of the above required 3 years’ experience.
Schedule
Full-time days, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, 72 hours per pay period.
