Flexo Press Operator

About the role

As a Flexographic Press Operator, you will lead your team in safety, quality, and productivity during the production of paperboard packaging. We are looking for a Flexo press operator to set up, run, and maintain a wide-web, 8-color and coating flexographic printing machine to print on various types of substrate paperboard.

Responsibilities

• Arrive at work on time and during scheduled hours, working additional overtime as needed.
• Be an example to others by modeling and reinforcing safe-work practices and policies.
• Follow all written procedures. Report discrepancies in procedures to the production supervisor.
• Wear personal protective equipment as required; refer to job-specific work instructions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Listen to, follow, and relay written and verbal instructions.
• Operate assigned equipment to best of ability, ensuring safety, quality of goods and productivity for yourself and any assigned Assistant Operators.
• Re-position printing plates, adjust anilox rolls, or otherwise adjust machine to improve print quality.
• Set and adjust speed, ink flow, and positions and pressure tolerances of equipment.
• Examine job orders to determine details such as quantities to be printed, production times, stock specifications, colors, color sequences, and anilox BCM.
• Ability to rebuild, remove and install UV lamps, as needed.
• Monitor in-line BST system to ensure registration, print, and defects are within acceptable limits.
• Capable of assembling a make ready.
• Able to operate crane, sleeve, and parts washer.
• Perform PMs on all make ready equipment and components.
• Recognize and prevent common setup problems.
• Actively contribute to continuous improvement projects.
• Capable of setting up press from shut down and shutting down equipment.
• Able to manage all personnel and tasks during a make ready.
• Recognize how each press component affects critical quality elements.
• Demonstrate a knowledge of the “how” and “why” of all components of the press.
• Display knowledge of physics behind ink and color characteristics.
• Use quality instruments to measure quality with industry-specific equipment.
• Read tape measure in metric and standard measurement systems.
• Continuously perform visual inspections to ensure product meets or exceeds customer specifications.
• Perform minor maintenance.
• Attend required training and/or meetings: safety, quality and productivity.
• Train assistant operators and others to achieve company objectives.
• Actively participate in continuous improvement projects.
• Communicate with other plant personnel to solve production problems.
• Operate powered industrial equipment and manual industrial equipment.
• Record safety, quality, production, and maintenance data on various paperwork and computers as required.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the press room.
• Work closely with press tech in problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

• Strong mechanical troubleshooting, basic math, and color differentiation.
• Working knowledge of the use of a PC and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Previous hands-on experience running a flexographic printing press in manufacturing.

Skills

• Strong communication skills.
• Reading comprehension.

Work Environment

All work is performed in an indoor, climate and temperature controlled, packaging facility with proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for 8-to-12 hours.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.

Schedule

Full-Time, Monday-Friday with overtime.
