Flex Phlebotomist / Administrative Assistant (Preston)
About One Medical
One Medical is a primary‑care solution challenging the industry status quo by making quality care more affordable, accessible, and enjoyable. The company offers seamless in‑office and 24/7 virtual care services, on‑site labs, and programs for preventive care, chronic‑care management, common illnesses, and mental‑health concerns. In February 2023, One Medical joined Amazon to deliver exceptional health care to more consumers, employers, care‑team members, and health networks. The organization is building a diverse, driven, and empathetic team while cultivating an environment where everyone can thrive.
The Opportunity
As a One Medical Flex Phlebotomist/Administrative Assistant (internally known as Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist), you will provide an exceptional experience for patients by delivering venipuncture and other clinical support services. You will act as an ambassador for patients, remove barriers to care, and steward the office lobby’s look and feel. You will be the first point of contact for patients and support the Practice Coordinator, Operations Manager, or providers as needed. The role supports multiple offices in a market, requires strong teamwork, innovative problem‑solving, and a blend of specimen‑collection expertise with tactful interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Use the C‑I‑CARE framework in all patient interactions—clinical and administrative—to ensure a fluid, positive in‑office experience through patient intake, same‑day schedule management, follow‑up scheduling, billing and insurance knowledge, patient‑feedback monitoring, and outreach as needed.
- Provide best‑in‑class venipuncture services to a population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, depending on office location.
- Perform and assist with extended‑scope duties such as non‑blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs.
- Maintain high standards of in‑office care through proper specimen labeling, handling, processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization.
- Support members beyond the lab by answering patient messages, following up on lab cases, and assisting providers and the virtual medical team with clerical duties (e.g., biometric screening forms, medical record and consult review, billing inquiries, DOH reporting).
- Handle front‑of‑house duties including check‑in/check‑out, insurance verification, printing/paperwork tasks, test preparation, and meeting service‑level expectations.
- Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in problem‑solving, and supporting in‑office providers with ad‑hoc requests.
- Perform opening and closing duties and daily office upkeep, maintaining the look and feel of patient‑ and employee‑facing spaces, restocking supplies, and organizing the environment.
- Master the technology suite (Slack, G‑suite, Zoom, Circulation, RingCentral, and the Electronic Medical Record system) to interact with team members and complete daily work.
Requirements
- At least 6 months of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist outside of a training/externship environment.
- Strong customer‑service skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and deliver customer‑centric solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in computer technology (typing, internet navigation, and simultaneous use of multiple software systems).
- Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi‑disciplinary teams (experience with remote teams a plus).
- Proven ability to display confidence and instill trust during the collection process while delivering individualized, human‑centered, customer‑focused care.
- Proven track record of persisting through change, taking action on challenges, and learning quickly when faced with new situations or tasks.
