Fleet Technician Lead - Night Shift

Pay: up to $33.00 - $35.00 per hour, based on experience. $3.00 shift differential for 3rd shift (Monday - Friday, 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM). Annual boot and tool allowance provided.

About the Role

To provide safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by performing quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as expert diagnosis and repair to prevent breakdowns, reduce vehicle downtime, and improve total fleet reliability.

Responsibilities

• Performs supervisory roles when fleet supervisors or manager are not accessible.
• Mentors, teaches, and shares expertise with Fleet Technician I and II to aid in their development for positions of greater responsibility.
• Demonstrates clear and concise decision-making skills related to fleet repair and availability for operations teams.
• Provides clear communication and reporting to the fleet supervisor or manager on a daily basis.
• Performs required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles within planned time tolerances.
• Maximizes safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
• Performs FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections in accordance with all federal, state, and local legal and regulatory agencies, including all state-required inspections.
• Addresses all driver vehicle inspection report write-ups timely and efficiently.
• Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repairs to manufacturer specifications, including but not limited to:
  • Transport refrigeration systems
  • Engines, transmissions, and clutches
  • Drive-line and differential
  • Steering and suspension
  • Fuel and ignition systems
  • Exhaust systems (including regeneration systems)
  • Intake systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Brake systems
  • HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Lift-gate hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems
• Documents all work performed on work orders using complaint, cause, and correction format.
• Learns and develops efficiency in Sysco computer programs.
• Operates competently within designated parameters and communicates upward before exceeding those parameters.

Requirements

• Heavy-duty truck technical training.
• High school diploma required.
• Current and valid driver’s license (CDL preferred, not required).

Qualifications

• 2-year school and 4 years of experience, or 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair.
• 1-year experience in a leadership role (preferred).
• Annual Inspector Certification.
• Brake Inspector Certification (preferred).
• ASE certifications in Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks (preferred, not required).
• Mobile Refrigeration (EPA 608) Type II Certification (preferred).
• Mobile Air Conditioning (EPA 609) Certification (preferred).
• Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEMs and component manufacturers.
• Technician must provide own tools (diagnostic equipment and major tools provided by Sysco).

Skills

• Expert knowledge and skill in all vehicle systems and components.
• Expert knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment.
• Expert knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of refrigeration systems.
• Expert knowledge and skill in preventive maintenance inspections and repair.
• Moderate knowledge and skill in welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG).
• Moderate computer skills and knowledge.
• Expert knowledge of all DOT (FMCSA) regulations.
• Moderate knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
• Moderate knowledge of environmental regulations.

Working Conditions

• Frequently works outdoors.
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.

• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud (diesel engine noise and shop equipment).
