Diesel Technician II Pay: $27 per hour At First Student, our Technicians play a critical role in keeping our vehicles maintained, reliable, and safe for the students and communities we serve. As a Technician II, you will perform routine and advanced maintenance and repair work on buses, vans, and other fleet vehicles. This is a hands-on position for an experienced automotive or diesel technician who can complete repairs with moderate supervision, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and support preventative maintenance and inspection work. We are proud to offer: Competitive pay of $27 per hourTremendous career advancement opportunities due to our strong presence across North AmericaA positive and rewarding work environmentOpportunities to develop advanced diagnostic and repair skillsSupport for obtaining CDL and ASE certificationsThe opportunity to work on a wide range of automotive and diesel systems Your Responsibilities As a Technician II, you will: Perform routine and advanced maintenance on buses, vans, and other fleet vehiclesDiagnose and repair vehicle and equipment issues with moderate supervisionComplete repairs involving brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drivetrains, transmission clutches, and related systemsReplace bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, filters, fluids, and other componentsInspect tires and complete tire maintenance and related repairsAssist Technician III employees with preventative maintenance services, safety inspections, and annual vehicle inspectionsRemove and replace engines, transmissions, and differential assemblies under Technician III supervisionAssist with road calls and emergency repairs as neededIdentify potentially unsafe equipment and notify management of the issue and corrective action takenReview completed work before vehicles are returned to service and obtain approval when requiredAccurately complete work orders and document repairs, parts, and supplies usedMaintain parts usage records and order repair parts from approved suppliersSafely move vehicles between parking, service, and work areasRepair and maintain shop tools and equipmentMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentClean vehicles when requestedProvide informal guidance or support to Technician I employeesPerform other duties as assigned What We Are Looking For Approximately three years of automotive or diesel repair experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experienceIntermediate mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilityExperience completing mechanical repairs with moderate supervisionHigh school diploma or GED preferredVocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferredValid driver's licenseClass B CDL with passenger endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within three months of hireState vehicle inspection license where requiredASE certifications preferredAbility to participate in the company's ASE testing program within one year of hireAbility to obtain three ASE certifications within 12 months of hireKnowledge of state DOT vehicle inspection and safety standardsWorking knowledge of computerized diagnostic and maintenance systemsAbility to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipmentStrong communication and customer service skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a maintenance teamReliable and predictable attendancePersonal mechanic tool inventory sufficient to complete assigned repairs Physical Requirements and Work Environment This position works in a maintenance shop environment that may include dust, dirt, grease, noise, and changing weather conditions. Technicians must be able to: Lift at least 50 poundsWork in crouched, kneeling, standing, and lying positionsWork underneath vehicles using a mechanic's creeperWork indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditionsSafely operate vehicles, tools, and maintenance equipment This position is subject to applicable DOT drug testing and physical requirements.
