This is an exempt (salaried) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.
Responsibilities
- Develops, revises, implements, and monitors short and long-range goals and objectives for the fleet management.
- Manages implementation of fleet preventive maintenance program and repair services including timely conduct of annual inspections to ensure all vehicles remain compliant to the regulatory requirements.
- Manages the Fuelman Gas Card program including fuel pin requests/issuance and monitoring of usage reports.
- Manages fuel purchasing and usage of Fuelman Gas cards including audit of fuel exceptions.
- Manages GPS tracking (location services) system; ensures all vehicles have operating devices, monitors drivers/vehicle usage as needed and reviews reports.
- Create annual Fleet Reserve (FR) budget requests based on condition assessment report of vehicles and transition plan of fleet from Internal Combustion Vehicles (ICVs) to Electric Vehicles (EVs).
- Manage procurement/replacement of vehicles approved under the annual Fleet Reserve program.
- Manage assigned programs including repair, maintenance, and replacement of fleet vehicles in accordance with the approved policies and procedures.
- Manage the entire lifecycle process of fleet vehicles, from researching and procuring the right vehicles to their disposal. This includes managing the asset function of fleet vehicles to include commissioning, decommissioning and disposition process.
- Perform data verification of Fleet Management/Maintenance software, reporting and budgetary duties.
- Maintain all fleet-related expenses, including fuel, repair/maintenance costs, and any other costs related to fleet operations to ensure all expenses remain within budget allocations.
- Conduct fleet vehicles assessment and review of maintenance actions to improve fleet operations maintenance program to ensure higher fleet availability rates.
- Prepare documentation to assist with budget management, policy development and implementation, reporting and data management, and coordination with fleet services garage, Commissioning/ Decommissioning Center (CDC), other governmental agencies and the County departments.
- Reviews work procedures and operational efficiency and recommends and implements solutions.
- Covers risk management for insurance claims and cost reimbursements.
- Provides technical advice to departments regarding vehicle acquisition and repair/maintenance.
- Remains current on modern fleet management-related issues; especially new technology and electric vehicles.
- Administers maintenance and fuel budget and processing of related invoices.
- Presents proposals and reports and leads the annual Fleet Reserve replacement program and budget request.
- Manages all fleet services/operations related contracts, including bidding/RFPs and contracting in accordance with County guidelines.
- Aids in the development of policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties and functions as assigned and deemed necessary by Mecklenburg County.
Requirements
- Five (5) years of Supervisory experience in fleet operations and maintenance.
- Experience managing fleet vehicles acquisition, commissioning/decommissioning, fuel management, GPS monitoring, and Electric Vehicles (EVs) transition.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Master’s Degree in Automotive Technology, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- CPFP or CAFM certification preferred.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
