Fleet Mechanic - Traveling
About the role
Flare Construction is seeking an experienced Fleet and Heavy Equipment Mechanic II to support an active civil construction project based in Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning July 2026. This is a traveling field assignment working from a field service truck and in the project yard, keeping heavy equipment and fleet vehicles running so crews stay productive and on schedule. While the primary work location will be the Las Vegas area, candidates must be willing to travel to other project sites as needs arise.
Responsibilities
- Independently inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems on fleet vehicles and heavy construction equipment at project sites and in the project yard.
- Perform and oversee scheduled preventive maintenance to maximize equipment uptime and reliability throughout the project.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and cooling systems using diagnostic tools, manuals, and software.
- Respond to field repair calls and perform on-site repairs at active work locations across the Las Vegas area.
- Conduct DOT and OSHA compliance inspections and document findings accurately in the fleet management system.
- Maintain accurate service records and maintenance logs.
- Assist with parts procurement and supply coordination to keep the project running without interruption.
- Comply with all safety policies and environmental regulations; report hazards or incidents immediately.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience on fleet vehicles and/or heavy construction equipment
- Experience performing independent field service and mobile repairs
- Proficiency diagnosing diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical systems
- Ability to work independently from a field service truck and in the project yard
- Willingness to travel to other project sites as needed
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in physically demanding outdoor conditions
- OSHA 10 certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire)
Preferred
- CDL Class A (strongly preferred; not required)
- AC Certification
- Proficiency with diagnostic software (CAT ET, Cummins INSITE, or similar)
- OSHA 30 certification
- Experience in civil construction or energy infrastructure industries
- Associate degree or technical certification in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment
