Fleet Mechanic (Diesel)

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and scheduled services on heavy trucks and light-duty vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and brake systems.
  • Troubleshoot issues with diesel engines, transmissions, and mixers.
  • Conduct welding, fabrication, and minor bodywork repairs when required.
  • Auxiliary in roadside or onsite service calls to minimize downtime.
  • Perform DOT-required inspections and maintain compliance records.
  • Accurately complete work orders, repair logs, and inspection reports.
  • Ensure vehicles meet all safety, emissions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support accident/incident repairs and investigations.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Monitor and manage parts, tools, and inventory.
  • Assist with the implementation of fleet maintenance programs.
  • Communicate well with repair teams, drivers, dispatch, and fleet managers about vehicle issues.
  • Provide feedback on recurring problems or trends affecting the fleet.
  • Support training of drivers on pretrip inspections and basic maintenance checks.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; technical/vocational training is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in truck or heavy equipment maintenance (readymix or construction industry a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy truck systems.
  • Class B or A CDL license preferred (or ability to obtain).
  • Familiarity with diagnostic software and fleet management systems is a plus.
  • Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
  • Must have basic hand tools.
