Fleet Mechanic
About the role
The City of Kodiak is recruiting for a full-time Fleet Mechanic in the Public Works Department. This position performs a variety of technical maintenance duties involved in minor and major repairs and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on light and heavy gasoline and diesel vehicles, trucks, and equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting, diagnosing, overhauling, repairing, and adjusting engines and related vehicle systems, as well as servicing and performing preventive maintenance. The role also involves conducting safety inspections and maintaining records and reports.
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the efficient delivery of repair, maintenance, and record-keeping duties on a wide range of vehicles and equipment owned and operated by the City of Kodiak.
Responsibilities
- Perform minor and major repairs on light and heavy gasoline and diesel vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
- Inspect, diagnose, overhaul, repair, and adjust engines and related vehicle systems and components.
- Service and perform preventive maintenance on a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct safety inspections.
- Maintain records and reports related to vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED).
- One year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and two years of basic vehicle/equipment maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Alaska Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Valid Alaska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certifications.
Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
