About the role
The Automotive Fleet Mechanic under the supervision of the Automotive & Small Forklift Foreman performs preventive maintenance and repairs to all powered equipment. They uphold the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for troubleshooting and furnishing a suggested repairs and parts needed list for the Automotive Fleet Foreman’s review and approval.
- Performs Preventive Maintenance (PMs), tune-ups, and pressure checks on hydraulic systems and transmissions.
- Makes needed adjustments if required.
- Troubleshoots and repairs computer-controlled ignition and fuel systems.
- Uses on board diagnostics on Ford, GM, and Chrysler vehicles to effect repairs.
- Rebuilds and repairs engines and standard and automatic transmissions.
- Repairs or replaces air, hydraulic and electrical systems, braking, drive, and steering systems.
- Removes and installs drive and steer tires on container top lifts, forklifts, and other vehicles as needed.
- Removes, repairs, adjusts or replaces twist-locks on top lifts.
- Repairs or rebuilds cylinders, mast, and attachment heads on top lifts and forklifts.
- Performs emergency repairs on the equipment during off hours when needed.
- Certified to work on air conditioning systems (R12 and R134).
- Seeks to repair equipment in a quality-oriented manner, so as to eliminate the cause of downtime and its recurrence.
- In consultation with the supervisor, sets up preventive maintenance procedures.
- Demonstrates to employees of lesser skills the finer points of mechanical theories and practices requiring the highest skill and knowledge.
- Exhibits a high degree of leadership and must, at all times, be capable of resolving all problems relating to mechanical parameters.
- Works with other skilled tradespeople as required in the performance of duties and assists the supervisor in the training of other skilled tradespeople.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Follows policies and procedures set by GPA.
Requirements
- Willingness and ability to work holidays, weekends, overtime, and shiftwork as needed.
- Ability and willingness to climb and work at high elevations required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Visual acuity of 20/40 with or without corrective lenses for each eye, the minimum depth perception of 6/9, and minimum peripheral vision of 70 degrees for each eye.
- The ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels of administration including immediate supervisor, management, and co-workers required.
- Knowledge of all types of diesel/gas repairs essential.
- Required High School Diploma or equivalent.
- TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required upon hire.
- Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required upon hire.
