Fleet Mechanic

The City of Williamsburg is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the Fleet Mechanic position in the Public Works Department. This non‑exempt, full‑time role involves routine and basic work in the inspection, maintenance, and basic repair of automotive equipment, City vehicles, and related equipment, under the supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspection of automotive equipment and City vehicles.
• Conduct basic maintenance tasks and repairs on a variety of automotive equipment.
• Assist the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor with related duties as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Three (3) years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various automotive equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license.
• Acceptable criminal background, DMV check, and drug screen results.
• Class “B” commercial driver’s license (CDL) or ability to obtain a learner’s permit within 6 months and a full CDL within 18 months of employment.
• Virginia State Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection License or ability to obtain it within 1 year of employment.
