About the Role

The Mechanic 2 is responsible for keeping all vehicles in the fleet roadworthy and ready for service when needed. This role involves performing preventive maintenance and repair work on fleet trucks, trailers, and other company equipment, ensuring the general day-to-day operation of vehicle maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all preventive maintenance and repair work necessary on fleet trucks, trailers, and other company equipment.
  • Maintain the general day-to-day operation of vehicle maintenance and repair for all company trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Respond to roadside calls for disabled vehicles as required.
  • Interpret repair manuals and work orders to properly repair equipment.
  • Adhere to all company safety rules and regulations, recognizing safety as a top priority.
  • Attend regularly scheduled safety meetings.
  • Use all assigned safety equipment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational training plus one (1) year of related work experience OR three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Ability to service and diagnose brakes.
  • Ability to service and diagnose diesel trucks (tractor/trailers) and power-train mechanics.
  • Basic use of hand-tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • CDL preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-starter and self-motivated.
  • Good math and computer skills.

Working Conditions

  • Constantly (at least 51%): Exposed to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise levels, strong odors, and exposure to heat and cold.
  • Frequently (21% to 50%):
    • Exposed to biohazardous conditions.
    • Exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, requiring attention to safety considerations.
    • Exposed to electrical hazards and risk of electrical shock.
    • Handles or works with potentially dangerous equipment.
    • Must remain in a stationary position (sit).
    • Must move about inside/outside the office or work location (walk).
    • Operates a computer and other office machinery (use hands to finger, handle, or feel).
    • Must position oneself to maintain equipment, including under desks and in server closets (stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl).
    • Must ascend/descend a ladder (climb or balance).
    • Must use senses to effectively communicate with co-workers and clients and detect hazardous conditions (talk, hear, taste, smell).
    • Lifts up to 50 pounds.
