Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

About the role

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor oversees a maintenance shop under the responsibility of a Maintenance Manager. Responsibilities include supervising a team of technicians (mechanics) responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet, machinery supporting a post-collection facility, and equipment servicing the container shop. The role ensures all repairs and maintenance comply with Company safety and compliance standards, as well as federal and state regulations. The Supervisor plans and schedules repair work to ensure safe and timely completion, minimizing lost productivity.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction to A, B, and C level technicians and lead technicians to ensure safe, efficient, and timely repair and maintenance work.
• Monitor operational performance and efficiency, redirecting activities as needed.
• Report performance to management and recommend process or programmatic improvements.
• Supervise technicians, including conducting daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching, counseling, training, and performance evaluations.
• Make hiring and termination decisions in collaboration with Human Resources and management.
• Evaluate and recommend merit increases, promotions, and job changes.
• Inspect outside repairs to ensure compliance with Company safety and regulatory procedures.
• Identify training opportunities and document issues, discussing corrective actions with technicians as needed.
• Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues, and ensure resolution aligns with safety and compliance standards.
• Oversee diagnostics for complex repairs, provide coaching, and road test vehicles when necessary.
• Maintain shop inventory control to ensure adequate equipment and parts levels within budget.
• Review and approve expenses within scope; escalate larger expenses or major repairs to management.
• Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems for heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance on-site and on the road, including chassis repair, vehicle body control systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, and welding.
• Manage administrative tasks, including payroll, employee records, maintenance logs, and budget preparation.
• Record all maintenance data in Dossier Maintenance Software and align departmental goals with division targets.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in the following areas:
  • T3 Drive
  • T4 Brake
  • T5 Suspension and Steering
  • T6 Electrical/Electronic
  • T7 HVAC Systems
  • T2 Diesel Engine
  • ASE T Master Certified
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance working with heavy equipment.
• Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in a lead technician, supervisor, or management role, with thorough knowledge of safe working practices, DOT, OSHA, and other federal and state regulations.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $67,600.00 to $92,950.00, reflecting the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality of hire.

Bonus Plan

Eligible for an Annual Incentive Plan with a target of 10%.
