Fleet Deckhand (Gulf)

About the role

Ingram Marine Group is seeking new hire deckhands for its fleet of barges. This position involves full-time, 14/7 work schedules with the option to go home every night.

Responsibilities

• Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping and shoveling barges)
• Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, and cleaning crew living quarters)
• Aid with locking procedures
• Carry rigging materials (ratchets, wires, straps, pumps, hoses, and lines)
• Work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)
• Check barges for water and leaks, sometimes requiring entry into confined spaces
• Maintain vessel appearance by washing, chipping, and painting
• Support the Engineer as needed
• Follow Ingram safety systems and participate in safety drills and audits
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Requirements

• Diploma or GED required
• Valid Driver’s License required
• Reliable transportation to and from work required
• Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
• Pass a post-offer background check, drug screen, and physical exam if offered a position
• Ability to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
• Ability to work in confined spaces often accessed through a manhole
• Ability to climb ladders and board/sit in a skiff
• Read and write English to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
• Ability to work away from home for extended periods (14, 21, or 28 days)
• Ability to respond quickly in unexpected circumstances
• Strong communication skills with all levels within the organization
