Flatiron Research Fellow, Center for Computational Quantum Physics
Directed by Antoine Georges and co‑directed by Andrew Millis, the Center for Computational Quantum Physics (CCQ) at the Flatiron Institute is a leading international hub for equilibrium and non‑equilibrium many‑body quantum research. The center supports over 40 scientists, staff, visitors, and graduate students, and collaborates with institutions such as the New York City‑Max Planck Center, CIFAR Quantum Materials program, QUAST collaboration, CEA‑France, and the Collège de France. The Flatiron Research Fellow (postdoctoral) position involves developing new concepts, algorithms, and software to advance the understanding of many‑particle quantum systems and applying these tools to condensed‑matter physics, materials science, quantum chemistry, quantum information, and related fields.
Responsibilities
- Conduct original theoretical and computational research in condensed‑matter physics, chemistry, applied mathematics, computer science, or related areas.
- Design, implement, and maintain novel algorithms and open‑source software libraries.
- Assist in organizing CCQ and institute‑wide collaborative activities, including seminars, workshops, and meetings.
- Prepare manuscripts for scientific journals and present results at conferences, workshops, and seminars.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students as appropriate.
- Share expertise and provide training or guidance to CCQ staff, visitors, and collaborators.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., theoretical condensed‑matter physics, computational quantum physics, materials science, theoretical chemistry, quantum information, applied mathematics, or computer science).
- Demonstrated ability to perform outstanding theoretical/computational research.
- Expertise in computational methods, data analysis, software and algorithm development, modeling, machine learning, high‑performance/parallel computing, or scientific simulation.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Full‑time annual salary of $95,000.
- Competitive benefits package provided by the Simons Foundation.
- Eligibility for subsidized housing within walking distance of the CCQ (subject to availability).
Application Materials
- Curriculum vitae with a complete publication list.
- Research statement (max 4 pages) describing past important results, current and future research interests, and any joint projects with other institutions.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Application deadline: recommended submission by October 9 2026; rolling review begins Fall 2026 until positions are filled.
- AI policy: applicants may use AI tools for limited editing or formatting but must not substantially author research statements, cover letters, or other narrative materials with AI. Any significant AI use should be disclosed.
