Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and conduct daily practice sessions focusing on skill development and strategy.
- Manage game-day operations, including play-calling, player rotations, and equipment setup.

- Monitor the academic performance of the team members to ensure they meet eligibility requirements.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director to manage schedules, facilities for practices and competitions, transportation, and budget.
- Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and the community regarding program updates.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained and follow safety protocols, including concussion protocols.
- Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Assign duties to the assistant coach as necessary.
- Coach and instruct players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Observe players during practice and games to evaluate individual needs and team improvements to enhance game strategy and team capabilities against opponents.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision of the athletes.
- Follow state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
- Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations.
- Work with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season.
- Participate in special activities such as parents' night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
- Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
- Promote a positive team culture centered on the "Student-First" mentality.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior coaching experience at the youth, middle, or high school level.
- No history of child abuse or neglect.
- No history of drug or alcohol abuse.
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Pass a pre-employment background check (including Tribal School requirements and Federal requirements).
- After training completion, coaches must repeat this training every three (3) years.
- Athletic Directors must complete a school district approved Coaching Principles training that requires a minimum of five (5) hours of instruction or complete the NFHS Coaches Fundamentals Course or attend all sessions of the WIAA Coaches School.
- Coaches must annually complete the WIAA general rules clinic and the WIAA approved rule clinic for the sport being coached prior to the end of the third week of the sports season.
- Possess a valid current First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain) or have completed a School District approved Athletic Training/Sports Medicine course equivalent to the Red Cross First Aid Card training or be enrolled in a First Aid Class.
- Possess a valid current CPR Certification or be enrolled in and approved CPR C, which must be renewed every three years.
- Have successfully completed Concussion recognition and management with Return to Play protocols and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness trainings as required by Washington State Law, which must be renewed every three (3) years.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Yakama enrolled preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
