About the role
A fixed asset accountant manages long-term physical property, recording asset purchases, tracking depreciation, and performing monthly reconciliations across multiple locations and companies. This role ensures financial records follow standard accounting rules and helps with internal and external audits.
Responsibilities
- Asset Tracking: Research new property, equipment, or software purchases by communicating with other departments on in-service dates and useful life to create asset cards.
- Depreciation: Calculate and post monthly depreciation schedules and useful life metrics.
- Disposals & Transfers: Process asset retirements, sales, or transfers between company locations.
- Reconciliations: Match sub-ledger balances to the general ledger during month-end close.
- Capital vs. Expense: Review purchase requests to decide if costs should be capitalized or expensed.
- SOX Controls: Complete and update fixed assets controls on a timely basis.
- Auditing: Prepare reports and support external/internal audits and tax filings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2 to 5 years of general ledger or fixed asset accounting experience.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems like Business Central, SAP, Oracle, or JD Edwards.
- Understanding of GAAP/IFRS rules and capitalization thresholds.
Pay
Base Pay: $68,000.00 - $85,000.00 USD annual. Eligible for a target annual short-term incentive bonus of 5% of annualized base pay.
