Fitter / Welder - Weekend Shift

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints to fabricate structural steel
• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
• Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
• Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions
• Set up components for welding equipment in accordance with specifications (e.g. cut material with gas torch to match measurements)
• Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
• Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards
• Keep work areas clean and organized

Requirements

• Proven experience as welder and fitter
• Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (flux-core, MIG weld)
• Experience in using electrical or manual tools (grinder, squares, tape measure, hand tools)
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
• Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
• Attention to detail
• Ability to learn safe overhead crane operations
• Proficient in English
• Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work effectively with others.
• Position performs work mostly in the shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use.
• Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
