Fitter (Nights)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Comply with safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and regulations.
• Works in conjunction with other departments (Cutting operations and bay pulling) to ensure all relative materials are properly staged and ready for fabrication.
• Lay out, positions, aligns and fits components together in various body positions.
• Bolts, clamps, and welds together metal components of products, such as piping systems, plate, pipe and tube or structural shapes.
• Makes necessary adjustments to fit components together, using hand-held grinder or gas torch, hand scrapper, grinder, or power chipper.
• Removes excess weld, defective weld material, slag and spatter, using hand-held grinder or gas torch, hand scrapper, grinder, or power chipper.
• Preheats workpiece, using hand torch.
• Cuts metal plates or structural shapes.
• Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
• Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
