Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Affords assistance to the crew leader in construction, reconstruction, and maintenance work.
- Supports equipment operators by swamping, hand digging, and locating underground obstructions.
- Collaborates with specialized equipment including fusion machines, jackhammers, rotary drills, power actuated fasteners, and other industry tools.
- Serves as a signal to equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Ensures safety around backhoes, excavators, trenchers, and dump trucks.
- Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate potential hazards.
- Executes plastic pipe fusion tasks including socket, butt, mechanical, saddle, and electro-fusion.
- Taps and stops plastic and steel gas fittings.
- Executes cathodic protection work including installation of anodes, test leads, and pipe to soil measurements.
- Lifts and moves materials, tools, and equipment onto and from trucks by hand.
- Installs gas meters, regulators, piping, and pipe fitting work with black iron pipe.
- Repairs gas leaks including above-ground meter sets and piping and below-ground steel and plastic.
- Maintains legible, hand-written, and accurate records including daily work logs and installation records.
Experience And Education
- One (1+) plus years experience working with underground utilities is required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications
- Fitter certification is required.
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License is required.
