Fitter
About the role
The Fitter position is an individual contributor. This person must be a highly driven individual that will fit metal and/or aluminum components together to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders.
Responsibilities
- Fit and layout components of large steel interstate sign structures.
- Work with steel pipe and other steel shapes and measure on radiused surfaces.
- Follow fit and layout instructions described in detail drawings.
- Able to tack weld material into place.
- Read and complete labor reporting system, standard shop forms and blueprints.
- Use motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders and drills to clean and prep material for fitting and tacking.
- Use overhead cranes to move and hold material in place.
- Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty.
- Maintain a safe and productive work environment producing a quality product which is shipped complete and on time to satisfy the needs of the customer.
- Have a direct impact on safety, quality, productivity, TME (total manufacturing expenses), and customer satisfaction.
- Report to the Production Supervisor.
Requirements
- The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings.
- 1-3 years experience fitting in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Must be able to use GMAW welding equipment for tack welds.
- Able to use common manufacturing math.
- Maintain an acceptable attendance and prior employment record.
- Able to operate overhead cranes, prior experience preferred.
- Able to read weld symbols and understand blueprints.
- Able to use and accurately read a tape measure, levels, squares and angle finders to measure distances and angles.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner.
- Must be a person of passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and follow facility safety regulations.
- Maintain a safe and productive working environment.
