Fitter - 1st Shift

About the role

This is a hands-on structural fitting role. You'll spend most of your time laying out, aligning, clamping, and tacking large steel components to blueprint tolerance — before the piece ever goes to final weld. Fit-up accuracy is the job. Squareness, dimension, and alignment will not be secondary details — they're what you're accountable for every day.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, fit, and assemble structural steel components prior to welding
• Align, clamp, and tack components to meet blueprint and tolerance requirements
• Verify dimensions, squareness, and fit-up using precision measuring tools
• Tack weld to hold components in place for final welding
• Set up material and components for efficient welder handoff
• Identify and flag fit-up or material issues before they reach final weld
• Handle complex, large-scale weldment fit-up with minimal oversight
• Be trusted to catch and correct fit-up issues before they reach final weld
• Demonstrate consistent accuracy and reliability across varied assemblies

Requirements

• Take ownership of accuracy from layout through final fit-up
• Understand that a good weld starts with a good fit
• Take pride in accuracy, alignment, and structural integrity
• Read a print and translate it into exact measurements without guessing
• Catch fit-up problems before they become someone else's problem

Qualifications

• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
• Proficiency with layout, fit-up, and structural alignment techniques
• Working knowledge of tack welding to secure components for final weld
• Precision measurement and tolerance verification skills
